Semantic verse

Keyhole co-founder and Second Life veteran Avi Bar-Zeev writes a long post that argues Google Earth has a long way to go before it approaches what we commonly imagine to be the metaverse. It's all about making 3D content semantic, he says, and this means that:

What we really need is a new language of object representation that encapsulates and preserves form and function, aesthetics, style, meaning, and behavior, all tightly coupled and never discarded in the "art pipeline" until the object is finally rendered on your screen.

Needless to say, he alludes to working on something like it. Avi's post is a great read, full of lucid ideas.

[I'm not really doing his post justice. My post on the differences between Second Life and Google Earth will have to wait until I'm back in Stockholm on Sunday.]

What is fixed?

I see blogging as kind of running - or walking. So, no problem here. It is nice Stefan sends a note for his next post and stands still for a while. Do I miss something?

Since when is blogging confined to a place where making notes for future and past (pre-note and post-note) is prohibited? Who dictates the pace of time, but the runner? Or do you think a blogger is not an author in his/her own right?

So far I have too little understanding of the exact meaning of semantic verse (although I fully endorse the context from linguistics, narative design, gamedesign, GE simulation, visualisation). This looks as a nice metaphor here, when one feels the need to re-invent language altogether and try fix things moving.

I also believe 'real-time 3D on Google Earth' is in need of re-creating simulation semantics.
And I am all in favor of addressing the semiotics parts as well when displaying the build environment in this Earth game-like platform.

I like the running part. And am in expectation of the reading more on the differences perceived.
